Weekly Inspirations - Music Edition (10/14/13-10/18/13)
This week has been all about music for me. I've included a playlist of songs I've had on repeat for the past few days, new bands/albums I've been listening to a lot, and just some other fun songs I think you would enjoy!
Playlist of Random Songs I've Been Listening to A Lot Lately
-"Distress Signal" by Tigers Jaw - I love this song because it has a good flow and it's kinda indie and cute. The lyrics are pretty good too, like the "face your attacker" part in the chorus. Whether it's the regular version or the acoustic, I highly suggest checking out this song (as well as the band) if you have yet to listen to it.
-"The City" by Ed Sheeran - Most people know of Ed Sheeran, the brilliant singer-songwriter from England. If you have yet to listen to this song (or the album for that matter), you need to look it up ASAP. I love his voice, and I just love this song a lot. The lyrics are really relatable and interesting, and the music is kinda cool. He's really experimental and I like it.
-"Tibetan Pop Stars" by Hop Along - This is another cute indie song that's just fun to listen to. The instrumentation sounds great, and the singer's voice is also pretty nice. She has a unique sound, and the song itself is just cute. I love the line "I'm gonna be creeping on you so hard," it's just so random!
-"Things I Can't Change" by The Story So Far - I've been randomly listening to this song a lot for whatever reason (maybe because it's catchy and keeps getting stuck in my head). It's a good feel-good-I'm-never-changing power pop-punk song for those of you unfamiliar with TSSF.
-"Ninjas in Paris" by Watsky - I love Watsky, and this song has always been one of my favorites. If you've never heard of Watsky, he's a slam poet turned "rapper," and he just has an interesting perspective on different things. I like this song specifically because it's funny and random and it's fun to listen to. You can get it for free on his bandcamp under the name "Watsky."
-Night Owls - I just found this band from Connecticut at the concert I went to on Sunday, and I've been obsessed ever since. If you enjoy hardcore, please check them out. Their short, two-song release "Wounds Again" has two of the greatest songs I've heard in a long time; "Scars" and "Timothy." It's currently only $2 on their bandcamp under the name "Night Owls CT," so please give them a listen! They're very talented.
-Chance the Rapper - One of my roommates showed me Chance a few days ago, and I've also been listening to him a lot. He's similar to Tyler the Creator, where his lyrics are pretty intellectual and his songs have meaning. I suggest looking him up if you enjoy "smart rap." You can find his records "10 Days" and "Acid Rain" for free on his website!
-"Common Courtesy" by A Day To Remember - ADTR's new album is amazing! I did a review a few days ago for those of you who haven't heard it yet. If you like hardcore/rock and haven't heard of ADTR, please check them out! I also suggest their albums "Homesick" and "What Separates Me From You."
-"Going to Hell" by The Pretty Reckless - I'm a big fan of TPR, more specifically Taylor Momsen. I was super excited about the release of their new video, and I must say it may even top their other ones. It's very strange and "edgy," but I like it.
